Beggar's Night... again

Posted by Jack

We (at this little experiment called the Mulberry House) are undertaking a new "project" of sorts...

As you may know, there is a law on the books here in Springfield which makes begging illegal. The exact wording of the ordinance forbids asking, directly or indirectly, for food, alms, or subsistence by charity. You can read more about our thoughts on this law by clicking here.

In short, we don't like it!

We are looking for faith communities and individuals who would like to work with us to address this law in light of Biblical justice and our calling to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

We have a tentative plan (including 3 or 4 basic actions) to move forward in removing this law from the books. Before taking action though, we think we should have some sort of informational meeting for interested parties.

Are you interested in being a part of this? If so, we are having a meeting next Tuesday, Dec. 6th at 7pm. Pizza will be provided. The meeting will take place at 125 W Mulberry Street (our house) here in Springfield. You are welcome to attend the meeting.

If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to hear about the project anyway, let me know and I will gladly make arrangements to share with you.

Like Dr. King once said, I believe that change rests in the hands of the creatively maladjusted. We are looking forward to speaking out on behalf of the poor and hungry in our midst.
