Spring

Posted by Tim

Today was the first day of spring. That's what my calendar said. I usually consider the transition from winter complete when I can start wearing flip-flops on a normal basis. Other markers have been longer days, the shedding of heavy coats, and the presence of our neighbors on their porches late into the evenings. Spring seems to me to be the tangible presence of hope. All that has been dead and desolate for the past few months is beginning to show signs of life. While nothing is vibrant yet, we know the sun and rain will bring us green grass, cherry blossoms, and a garden full of fruit, vegetables, and flowers. The cold dark days of winter are behind us, and it will only get better from here.

I am extremely grateful to live in a climate where Easter is celebrated during the emergence of spring. I can't think of a better picture of the new life obtained through the resurrection than the way spring emerges from winter. Jesus has risen from the dead, and we are caught up in His story. And although things still appear dead around us, we have real hope that His Love brings life to the desolate, and the coldest, darkest days are past. And so we plant. And so we build. And so we love....because the Kingdom is coming, and it will only get better from here.

Christ has risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave.
